Why Cambridge Military History?

The history of Cambridgeshire stretches from the Stone Age hunter gatherers, through the Roman colonization, the arrival of the Anglo-Saxons, Normans, and Vikings, to the development of England from feudal aristocracy to constitutional monarchy and on into the two World Wars and the Cold War.  It is a rich and varied history. The county is dotted with RAF aerodromes and Tudor castles. There are memorials to the Great War beside parish churches that stretch back to the 12th Century, along with Cathedrals reaching back into the Middle Ages.  One could spend a lifetime exploring the local history of the area, as well as how the people of Cambridgeshire have impacted England and the world.

I began this blog in 2014, focused on the military history of Cambridgeshire.  However, in 2016 I was stationed in Belgium for several years before returning to Cambridgeshire, England in 2020. It was at that time that the blog began to explore a more expanded scope of the miltary history of Cambridgeshire, from the fields of Flanders to Germany. However, I try to find connections which draw the varied topics I write on back to my home here in East Anglia. While I aim to focus on the military history of the area, I also allow my interests to take my writing beyond this part of England.
